Barbera Chinato
The Chinato is a product that was developed in the back rooms of the Drogherie (pharmacies) in Piedmont, around the beginning of the 18 th century, as a cure-all Elixir. The Marchesi Vineyards Chinato is a spiced red wine made predominately from aged Barbera. The rest of the ingredients read a little like a potion book. China Calissaja is the main ingredient with the addition of a number of spices and herbs that are a guarded family secret. Though medical claims were long ago dispelled, this wine can still be honestly touted as the ideal Digestivo for an after meal treat.
